Greetings My Brothers,

It's a pleasure to welcome you to the legendary Theta Rho Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Our membership spans the tides from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Spain, Italy, Greece, the Netherlands, Belgium, Croatia and Hungary to Sarajevo, Africa and Germany. We put the "International" in the Fraternity's reputation. We invite you to share your skills and talents with this enlarged community of Friends.

Once you enroll in Theta Rho, you rededicate yourself to a life of service on behalf of Omega.

Although your attendance at every meeting is expected and desired, we understand that your military and family commitments may dictate less than full compliance. However, we do expect you to become a financial and active member of the Fraternity. All we ask is that you give what you can, according to your means.

Again, welcome to Europe/Germany and the Land of Theta Rho International Chapter The place where we constantly strive to "Walk the Talk of Uplift". Look forward to seeing you at the next meeting.

THETA RHO INTERNATIONAL CHAPTER

OMEGA PSI PHI FRATERNITY, INC. HISTORY

OMEGA PSI PHI Fraternity, Inc. consists of 12 geographical districts. They are numbered one to 13 (eleven is not used ). The 13th District is an international chapter to which Theta Rho belongs. Chapters in the district are located in Germany, South Korea; the Virgin Islands, Nassau, Bahamas; Hawaii; Monrovia, Liberia; Panama Canal Zone and Okinawa, Japan.

Theta Rho was chartered in Frankfurt, Germany on 15 August 1962. It was de-activated in 1972. It was reactivated 13 April 1973 with nine brothers. One of these brothers, Major General Matthew Zimmerman, became the U.S. Army's first African-American Chief of Chaplains. Theta Rho was and still is the largest overseas chapter.

The Chapter has had 18 Basilei since its reactivation in 1972. The present Basileus, Bro. Vroman Wright, is the 18th. He succeeds Bro. Tony Munson (Maj. USAREUR). Brother Bernard Oliphant holds the singular honor of having served as the 9th Basileus (1986-1989), the 14th Basileus (1992-1995) and the 16th Basileus (1996-1997).

Theta Rho uses an area concept with "Area Coordinators" in charge representing the chapter Basileus (Heidelberg, Kaiserslautern and Wiesbaden). The use of Area Coordinators is necessitated by the location and distance traveled by brothers to attend meetings. The "AC" is charged to set up locations for meetings and coordinate for scheduled fraternity activities.

The Chapter meets on the third Saturday of each month. Meetings are rotated to different "AC" locations as directed by the Basileus. The Chapter thoroughly supports the community with scholarships being the main focus. Efforts are made to consistently support all eight mandated programs--Achievement Week, Scholarship, National Social Action Program, Talent Hunt, Memorial Service, Reclamation and Retention, National High School Essay Contest and Assault on Illiteracy Program. Also during Chapter meetings, Brothers discuss and vote on annual support of DODDS (scholarships), annual contributions to the NAACP as well as various other charitable requests. Fundraising events such as the annual "Boat ride, Purple and Gold Affair, and New Year's Eve Ball" are planned, approved and executed through committee participation.

The first annual Retreat was started in 1989 under the guidance of Bro. Oliphant. It gives brothers the opportunity to reflect on Manhood and re-dedicate themselves to Omega. It also provides a forum to enhance problem solving skills, brush up on fraternity history (mentoring) and share in a little fellowship.

On 29 July 1988, the Wuerzburg area brothers formed Phi Gamma Gamma. The reason for forming another chapter was to eliminate the travel and logistics requirement brothers incurred trying to make fraternity meetings. (As of this writing, the remaining few Brothers at PGG had decided to de-activate the chapter due to insufficient enrollment.)
